FAQ’s - Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why is it important to have someone check on our home while we’re away?

A. Most insurance companies require that you have someone check your home every 72 hours (if not more often) if it is left unoccupied.  Check your home insurance policy for your specific ‘away’ requirements. Many insurance policies have clauses that will void coverage if your property is left unoccupied and unattended for extended periods of time. In fact some of our customers have discovered that their policy requires their home to be checked on a daily basis during the winter months.

Q. How much does your service cost?

A. Please see our Services page for details on our fees.

Q. Where are you located?

A. We run our business out of our home, which is located in the Rossland & Thornton area of Oshawa, close to the Whitby border.  We will discuss via phone or email any questions or concerns you may have initially and then meet with you in person at your home to make all final arrangements.  Contact us anytime by email or phone (905-434-1661).  If you leave a voice mail message we will return your call within 24 hours.

Q. What is your 'standard service radius'?

A. Our standard service radius defines the geographic region that we service for our standard fees.  This area is bound by Winchester Road in the north, Townline in the East, Lake Ontario in the south, and Lakeridge Road in the west.  **NEW**  We have now created a second radius (Zone 2) in order to provide upfront pricing for those customers who live beyond our standard radius (Zone 1).  As the map below illustrates, Zone 2 is bound by Myrtle/Raglan Roads in the north, Waverly/Highway 57 in the east, Lake Ontario in the south, and Brock Road in the west.  Outside of this radius (beyond Zone 2) we calculate individual pricing, based on the distance of your property from us.   We will discuss this with you right up front so there are no hidden costs.

Q. Who will have access to our property?

A. Only your designated Trusted Neighbour representative (Lauren and/or Dave) will have access to your home.  If you choose to have the grass cutting and/or snow removal options, an external vendor may provide this service.  These vendors will have access to the exterior of your home only and will deal directly with A Trusted Neighbour only.

Q. Will you stay in our home while we are away?

A. We do not provide in-house sitting services at this time.

Q. Will you take care of our pet while we are away?

A. While pet sitting is not our core business, we are happy to discuss this with you to see if we can reach a mutually acceptable arrangement.  Basic care such as providing food and water for cats or other small animals is normally not a problem.  If you require more thorough care, there are other local businesses (consult the Yellow Pages) that specialize in pet sitting, daily dog walking etc. which may be more suitable, depending on your needs.
